Equipment enhancement is a process that increases the combat stats and gear score of your equipment. Keep an eye out for an Enhancement Artisan NPC, as they provide you the means to enhance your gear.
The enhancing process starts by ‘Fortifying’ equipment up to level 5. After that, the equipment can be ‘Upgraded’ into the next rarity tier, resetting its fortification level to 0. As you enhance your equipment, be wary of failed upgrades, as they can damage your precious gear!

There are three types of equipment enhancement: Common, Master, and Unlicensed. To gain a better understanding of Equipment Enhancement, you can visit the Master Equipment Specialist NPC for detailed information regarding enhancements.

How do I enhance an equipment piece?
-
Interact with an Equipment Specialist.
-
Highlight the equipment that you want to upgrade. A label: ‘Fortification Available’ will be visible if the Player has the required materials.
-
Hold the interact button to ‘Fortify’ the item.
-
A result prompt will inform the player if the fortification was successful or not.
What are the different kinds of Equipment Enhancements?
Common Enhancement is, as the name implies, the most common type of enhancement. Common enhancement costs gold, artifact shards, and artifact cores, depending on item grade and fortification level. If your equipment fails to be upgraded, it can break! Broken equipment can be downgraded by one fortification level, is weakened, and must be repaired.

Master Enhancement is a more scarce type of enhancement. You must use star seeds at these NPCs and the chance of the upgrade succeeding is lower, but there is no penalty if the fortification fails.

Unlicensed Enhancement is only available at the Outlaw Village. Upgrading through Unlicensed Enhancement is very cheap, however, there's a catch:
If your equipment fails to upgrade through Unlicensed Enhancement, there is a chance you will lose that piece of equipment PERMANENTLY!
